Best Microfilm Scanning Services from IImage Retrieval

Microfilm Scanner- NextScan Eclipse

IImage Retrieval uses the best available microfilm scanner made by nextScan.  nextScan was founded in 2002 by  the principles of IIRI along with a third partner with goals to bring microfilm scanner up to date. nextScan started with a traditional film scanning approach called Fusion and then went on to pioneer the  ribbon scanning,  process in which a roll of film is scanned in its entirety and then post processed into individual images. This allowed the QA and segmentation to be performed in on the captured ribbon in parallel by a human operator. nextStar ribbon scanning is idea for poor quality microfilm/fiche while the standard on the fly approach is more cist effective for easy film.

Over the last 21 years we have digitized microfilm/fiche for all segments of the industry including:

  • County Clerk Offices and Title Companies
  • Military Medical Facilities
  • Mortgage Companies
  • School Districts
  • Universities newspaper projects
  • Litigation support companies and Law Firms

Roll microfilm on NextScan FlexScanHow we run the project

Depending on the film type, quality and customer needs we choose from our equipment the best suited to the job. Simple film will be scanned on the nextScan Eclipse scanners using Fusion software. More difficult film will be scanned on the nextScan FlexScan using the nextStar ribbon scanning method.

All film that arrives in our office is inventoried and prepared for scanning. The inventory is compared with that the customer sent to insure that no film was misplaced. The production worksheet, having been prepared by the sales person, is reviewed by production and a sample is prepared and sent to the customer. We want to insure that the work we are going to deliver is exactly what the customer wanted.

Armed with the inventory log production batch worksheets are prepared and the film is loaded into our production trays. The operator will process all rolls on a work sheet noting any issues found an solved. Any problems that can not be solved by the operator are brought to the attention of the supervisor for resolution. Resolution may involve communication with the customer for final decisions.

Once the film has been scanned it is reviewed for quality, cropping etc. The images may then go to be indexed either in house using IIRI own internal data entry tools or sent to an offshore operation for more detailed indexing.
Completed work is then moved onto a USB storage device or burnt to DVD’s. IIRI keeps a copy of all work for a minimum of 30 days or will purge any data at the request of the customer/
